The Hub Heads to WIAC2025: On indoor air and bioaerosols

Members of the Biodetection Technologies Hub are attending an upcoming international conference that will explore the intersection of indoor air pollution and airborne disease.

The event is The Workplace and Indoor Aerosols Conference (WIAC2025), taking place from May 6–8 at the Angevin Aragonese Castle in Gaeta, Italy.

If you're attending, we'd love to connect – either come and find us when we’re presenting or please get in touch (add hyperlink to contact page!) in advance.

Now in its sixth edition, WIAC2025, under the theme ‘Particle Pathways’, aims to advance understanding of airborne disease transmission, noncommunicable diseases linked to air pollution, and innovative mitigation strategies.

Representing the Hub, Dr Jianghan Tian, Research Fellow in Bioaerosol Characterisation at the University of Hertfordshire, will present her novel research on the measurement of pH changes in exhaled respiratory aerosols and its impact on airborne disease transmission. This work was conducted during her PHD at the University of Bristol, in collaboration with ETH Zurich.

Now based at Herts as part of the Hub, Jianghan aims to build new research collaborations to enhance bioaerosol sampling, detection, and diagnostic technologies, ultimately contributing to more effective disease surveillance and early-warning systems.

She will be presenting during the poster sessions on May 6 and 7 from 16:30–18:00.
