Exciting collaboration across the Hub

Funded through Research England’s collaboration fund, Hub members from Cranfield University visited the University of Hertfordshire for some exciting research on gas sensors. It was great to see the Biodetection Technologies Hub working together for aerosol gas testing, which was cross-validated across 2 detection techniques.

~ A chemical microarray to "sniff" for microbial volatile organic compounds (MVOC) from grey mould cultures and bacillus spores for the first time
~ Collection using membrane filter and thermal desorption tubes for gas chromatography-mass spectrometry analysis.

These projects are useful in surveillance and phase-specific analysis/profile of MVOCs as indoor mould indicators, with real-world implications for health, safety, and environmental monitoring.

Looking forward to seeing the results from this time's visit and the next steps of where this collaboration goes.

Proud to be part of a team pushing the boundaries of biodetection technology!
